The standard pool table measurements (length and width) are, in general, as follows:

They can be installed in small spaces: While a huge shower is lovely, not everyone has the space they would like. However, just because you need or want a curbless shower doesn’t mean you need the space found in a million-dollar home.

What are Frameless Glass Shower Doors?

Frameless glass shower doors as just that–glass shower doors without framing. Traditional framed glass shower doors make use of metal, rubber or some other material to secure the glass along the edges. The result is a bulky look that can become an eyesore especially for small bathrooms.

A frameless shower door does away with the framing, creating a cleaner and less cluttered look. Many homeowners will also agree that a frameless shower door is less of a hassle to clean and maintain. A quick wipe is enough to get it looking sparkling clean.

But the beauty and airiness of frameless glass shower doors comes with a number of downsides. For one, the cost of a frameless shower door is much higher than that of framed doors. Key Considerations When Buying a Frameless Shower Door

If you have decided to go ahead with a frameless shower door, there are some essential considerations to keep in mind as you look for the right one.

1. Fully Frameless Glass vs. Semi-Frameless Glass

One of the biggest frustrations when it comes to buying a frameless glass shower door is the lack of standards. One seller will define a frameless shower door in a different way from another and a third one will choose yet another definition. Honestly, it can be pretty confusing to a lot of homeowners.

Two terms you will come across are fully frameless and semi-frameless. Some shower doors make use of long U channels at the bottom or sides of the door to secure it. While some sellers will still say this is a frameless door the more accurate term agreed on by many in the industry is semi-frameless. Other frameless shower glass doors use clamps to secure the glass door to the wall or a fixed glass panel. This is what many refer to as a fully frameless shower door.

When you go shopping ask whether the door uses U channels or clamps (sometimes called clips). Clamps generally have a more minimalist look compared to U channels.

2. Type of Hardware

Another very important issue is the type of hardware used on the door. This refers to the material used in the U channel (for semi-frameless glass doors) and in the clamps (for fully frameless glass doors) as well as any other component including the hinges.

You will find terms like brass construction, aluminum construction and anodized construction. If possible, always go for brass hardware. Shower frameless glass doors are quite heavy, sometimes weighing up to 200 lbs. The hardware used must be able to bear all that weight safely and ensure structural integrity. Brass is much better at this than aluminum and many other materials you encounter.

You can then choose to have the brass components coated in a finishing of your liking. Common finishes include chrome, oil rubbed bronze and brushed nickel.

One tip that can help you determine that you are buying the right hardware is to ask for part numbers. Look up the part numbers online to find original manufacturer information. This will tell you exactly what materials are used and safe weight tolerances as stated by the manufacturer.

3. Type of Hinges

For the door to open and close, it must be fitted with a hinge. Installing a hinge on a glass door and a frameless one at that, is an entirely different kettle of fish from installing a hinge on a normal door. The hinge must be able to support the weight of the door and allow it to turn smoothly without any problem.

There are three types of hinges you can use for your frameless shower door: door-to-wall hinges, pivot hinges and glass-to-glass hinges. Ask your contractor for recommendation on which is best in your situation. Each hinge comes with its own benefits and complications.

For example, a glass-to-glass hinge is more problematic to install compared to a glass-to-wall hinge. A pivot hinge has the advantage of allowing the shower door to open 180 degrees in either direction.

4. Type and Thickness of Glass

Lacking in framing, frameless shower doors must be thicker to achieve proper support and structural integrity. There are two sizes that are recommended: 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch. Anything thinner than this and your shower door will keep wobbling whenever you open or close it. Note that 1/2 inch frameless shower doors cost more than 3/8 ones.

In addition to the thickness, you also need to choose the type of glass you prefer. This is mostly a matter of aesthetics and each seller stocks different variations, some with proprietary names. Some of the options you will come across include clear glass, frosted glass and rain glass. One thing they all have in common–they are all tempered glass. Tempered glass is as a result of a special manufacturing process that makes it stronger and changes how it breaks. In case of breakage, it fragments into numerous small chunks that are not as hazardous as normal glass.

The first step is to find out what dark varieties your preferred cabinet vendor has. Chances are that they have dark extremes of each color. Decide what dark shade will work best for your kitchen. When most people think about dark kitchen cabinets, they automatically see the color black or grey. But you can get dark versions of any color, apart from white of course. You can choose to go with black, dark red, dark green, dark brown and so on.

Fiberglass – fiberglass tubs are popular because of their affordability. The material is more budget-friendly than other alternatives including copper, cast iron and brass. It is also lightweight and can be repaired when damaged instead of replacing the entire tub. The biggest downside is poor durability and an easy to scratch surface.Acrylic – this is another affordable and lightweight tub option. In fact, acrylic tubs have fiberglass as a major component. The Difference Between A Freestanding Bath Tub And A Built-In Bath

Freestanding baths have long been seen as the ultimate romantic statement: the large claw-foot tubs of yesteryear can accommodate two people simultaneously (cue the scented candles and bath oil). However, there have been some complaints: they are more challenging to clean around, and they do not keep the bathwater hot for very long. However, the alternative, built-in bathtubs, has a negative reputation for being outmoded and less luxurious.

What is the distinction between a freestanding and a built-in bath? When it comes to bathtubs, there are two basic types to consider: built-in baths, which are typically installed in an alcove with walls on three sides, and freestanding baths, which give you more flexibility in where you place it in the room (though most freestanding tubs are installed close to a wall—and existing plumbing). Most people don’t know the duvet can be cleaned. In fact, washing the duvet is not as difficult as you imagined. Let us share the ways to wash different duvets and how to store them.

Cotton quilt

Cotton is the most traditional quilt component. The quilt is made of natural cotton fibre. It is thicker and is a commonly used quilt in winter. The cotton quilt cannot be washed with water. Washing with water will cause the cotton to clump, which is difficult to restore to its original shape, and its functionality will decline. Therefore, the correct way to clean is to bask it in the sun and lightly pat the quilt to remove the dust and maintain the bulkiness of the cotton, thereby maintaining its functionality to keep warm.

The cotton in the quilt has a strong moisture absorption ability, so you need to pay attention to moisture problems when storing it. In addition, it is not recommended to put heavy stuff above the quilt when storing, because excessive squeezing will make the cotton compact and lose its heat storage capacity.

Down duvet

The inner core of the duvet is made by animals down, mostly from geese or ducks. Down has higher warmth retention ability than cotton and other plant fibres. The three-dimensional structure of the down stores a lot of air, which can retain the heat emitted by humans and effectively keep the user warm. The quilt itself is also lighter.

The duvet can be washed in a machine or water, but it also needs to be cleaned in a gentle mode with neutral detergent, because acidic or alkaline detergents will damage the down fibre itself. After washing, it can be dried in a ventilated place and avoid exposure to the sun. If you want to clean it thoroughly, you can consider sending it to a dry cleaning every 5-7 months.

In order to maintain the permeability of the duvet, it is necessary to avoid using plastic or fibre duvet cover, so as to prevent the inner core of the duvet from being damp and mouldy and causing a peculiar smell. It should also be stored in a dry place.

Silk duvet

Silk duvet is another kind of animal protein fibre. It’s soft and permeable at the same time, which can be used during all seasons. So, silk is a premium material for producing duvet. Additionally, the production process of silk duvet does not contain any chemical materials or pesticides, so pure silk duvet with good quality is a natural and environmentally friendly product.

Silk duvets are difficult to clean. Like cotton quilts, they cannot be washed with water because they will clump and also cannot be exposed to the sun, which will make the fibres brittle. So, they can only be placed in a cool place for ventilation. For storage, in order not to deform the silk, the silk quilt cannot be squeezed in a vacuum and should not be pressed with heavy objects.

The curling characteristic of wool makes the wool duvet contain a large amount of air, and slow down the heat transfer rate, so it can prevent the intrusion of cold air and able to maintain a high degree of warmth as well as being the most fire-resistant quilt.

Anyone who has woollen clothes would know that wool is not recommended to be washed, so if you wish to wash the wool duvet, you need to take it for dry cleaning. If you want to keep the duvet clean, you dry the duvet regularly in the evening or early morning for 1-2 hours for dehumidification and bactericidal effect. For storage, you need to put insect repellent items at the same time to prevent the wool from being infested.

Fibre quilt

A fibre quilt is actually made of man-made fibre. The advantage is that the maintenance is simpler than other animal and plant fibres. In addition to the condition that it is less likely to grow mould, it has a high elasticity so it will not shrink and the price is relatively low. However, it can only last for 2-3 years which is a much shorter lifespan than other well-maintained quilts. Since the chemical fibre is a plastic-type, the air permeability of the quilt is relatively poor.

Cleaning fibre quilt is simpler than other types of quilts. It can be washed directly by the washing machine at low speed or washed by hands with weak alkaline detergent to clean it more thoroughly. However, it is not recommended to hang it up during drying as the cohesion between fibres is not strong. If we hung it up, it may cause uneven thickness and lose its warmth retaining ability.
